The Transfagarasan Highway (DN 7C) is an imposing high altitude highway 90 km long, which traverses the crest of the Fagaras Mountains, the highest massif in Romaia. It links the provinces of Muntenia (Arges county) and Transylvania ( Sibiu County). The dizzying hairpin bends of the Transagarasan are enough to unnerve any motorist. In any case, the recommended speed in this highway which climbs to 2000 meters is 40 km per hour. Since the snow persists for a long time at this altitude, the road, which be warned, has no parapets, is closed from the end of October until June.

A journey along this highway takes us through breathtakingly beautiful places. We pass by the Balea Glacial Lake (2034 m altitude), the Vidraru Reservoir, through the Capra, Balea and Cartisoara glacial valleys. Along this one highway, we encounter no fewer than 27 viaducts and bridges and 550 smaller bridges. At Lake Balea, the Transfagarasan passes through the longest tunnel in Romania (887meters).
